Today's note is more about giving than riding as well as getting back when you give. Every day when I drive home from work there is a homeless guy, I assume, offering to wash windshields at one of the intersections for change. I rarely have cash with me but last week when the heat index in Houston was 110 I knew I'd drive by him so I stopped on my way out of the building and got a couple of fresh brownies and a large bottle of ice water. As I stopped at the light and he came by I gave them to him and he was so grateful for the ice cold water. Why this story and how does it relate to my riding?

Today I was riding between home and The Woodlands. As I rode along on one of the new roads behind Augusta Pines there was a truck following me. I turned up one of the new streets and the truck passed me and then turned into one of the side streets about a quarter mile ahead and stopped on the corner. A guy got out and went to the back of his truck and opened his ice chest and offered me a bottle of ice water as I rode by. I had a bottle of ice water already and thanked him and rode on. It just made me think about giving and getting back. The other thing that struck me was that this man looked most likely to be an illegal sub contractor working in the area and he stopped to offer me cold water. This is the first time anyone has ever done this. Usually it's BMWs, Mercedes, and other high dollar cars speeding by, not a look, not a wave, a honk to get out of the way. It's amazing how those with the least seem to be the most willing to give the most.

Well, back to riding. It was a good ride today, quick because there was rain, lightning and thunder on the horizon. Thankfully it stayed on the horizon. Tomorrow it's The Woodlands Sunday ride. I think Senator Ellis is coming up to join in along with the state Senator from The Woodlands. I'll let you know how it goes.
